Many people
recognise that they need to improve their posture. Perhaps
they have been told by their GP that poor posture is at the
root of their back or neck pain.
There are
many approaches to trying to correct posture, including
exercises to try and strengthen specific muscles, stretching
exercises, braces, deportment training, manipulation
techniques and even surgery.
However, until
you find out what it is that you are doing which is
putting your posture wrong, and stop doing it -
postural habits will almost invariably reassert themselves.
In order to
discover what you are doing wrong, you need to cultivate the
awareness to recognise the difference between your habitual
wrong posture and a more balanced state.
Through the
Alexander Technique you can:
-
discover how
the natural support structures of the body work so that
you can learn to cooperate with them
-
find out
what it is that you are doing which is
interfering with these mechanisms, and stop doing it
