Residential Courses & Workshops: 2012

24 to 31 August 2012

Mas Collades, Cataluña, Spain

Training Course Residential
This event is part of the teacher-training programme at WATC. It is also open to experienced pupils who would like to participate in an "Alexander intensive", and to teachers who would like post-graduate tuition.

The Programme
A general outline of the programme is as follows.

We will arrive during the afternoon of the first day and, after settling in, have the "introductions" in the early evening and then have dinner.

The pattern of the morning sessions will be similar to a morning on the training course, with turns from the teachers, guided hands-on work for teachers or senior trainees, and modules on elements of Alexander's teachings: for prospective teacher-trainees this provides a good "taster" of what it is like to train at W.A.T.C..

After lunch there will be free time for having a rest or other activities (tennis, table-tennis, swimming, walking,  etc.). In the early evening between 5 and 6:30 there will be themed workshops, CPD workshops for teachers and guided discussions. .

After dinner we can just relax or join in some activities with others (singing, dancing, games). Musicians are welcome to bring their instruments.

On one of the days - mid-seminar, to make a break - there will be optional trips to Montserrat (the extraordinary Benedictine Monastery on the top of a mountain) or other local places of interest; activities or just rest.  We will still have our early evening workshops.

We will organise the catering for ourselves with everyone taking turns at cooking, cleaning etc. - a wonderful opportunity to apply the technique to practical tasks shared with other people.

On the last day we will we will have a leisurely breakfast and summing-up before departure.

Course Leaders
The course leaders for this event will be:

John Hunter, Dorothea Magonet and Philippa Castell

Fees
The fee,
including tuition, seven nights accommodation (shared twin rooms) and all meals (communal self-catering) is €640. Full-time students are offered a discount of 20%. AT teacher-trainees are welcome to attend with the agreement of their Head of Training.

Transport
Participants are advised to fly to Barcelona Airport (BCN). There is an easy journey to Plaza de España where you can catch a train (FGC) to Manresa. From there you can be picked up by car.

Please note there are two more major airports in the region of Cataluña - Reus (REU) and Girona-Costa Brava (GRO). Both of them are approximately 100km from Barcelona. It is not normal to refer to these airports as 'Barcelona' airports, though some airlines still do. It would add considerably to your journey-time if you were to use either of these airports as you would need to get a train or bus to Barcelona and find your way to Plaza de España to catch a train to Manresa.
