The following Terms and
Conditions are the contract between
a student and the Head of Training. A formal "Learning
Agreement" is available to all students.
Registration
A successful
applicant who wishes to register for the course does so on
the understanding that he or she is accepted on a trial
basis for one term and is free to withdraw at any time
during that term.
The Head of Training may also request him or her to withdraw
at the end of the first term if he is of the view that he or
she is unsuitable for training. A non-returnable deposit of
£200 is required to secure a place on the course: this will
be deducted from the first term's fees.
A student who
wishes to withdraw from the course after the first term must
give a full term's notice of their intention to do so.
Course Fees
The course fees
till December 2011 are £1400 per term. From January 2012
they are £1500 per term. Fees are due on the first
day of each term and are subject to annual review.
Please note
that, in addition to the course fees, students are expected
to attend the
residential courses. Although tuition fees are
waived for current WATC students attending the residential
courses, students are liable for transport, food and
accommodation expenses. For further details please
contact
the course director.
Students unable
to attend the residential courses will be required to make
up the hours.
Other Fees
Students are
required to join the Society of Teachers of the Alexander
Technique as Student Members at the beginning of their
training. The fee for three years is £150, which includes
the moderation and certification fees, and students will be
invoiced by the Society for this amount during their first
term of study.
Qualification
Procedure
There are no
formal examinations. Qualification is on the basis of
continuous assessment by the Head of Training in
consultation with the external STAT Moderator, Main Assistant and
Teaching Staff. The STAT Moderator will work with each
student during their sixth and ninth terms.
Each student
will have an annual appraisal with the Head of Training. These
meetings are to assist both the teachers
and the students to focus on where help may be needed.
Qualification is
not guaranteed at the end of the three year course. In the
event that the Head of Training, in consultation with the
Teaching Staff, is of the view that further
training is necessary before the student can qualify, this
will be made clear to the student with as much notice as
possible, and at least one full term in advance. Any extra training that is required will be at the
student's expense and will normally take the form of an
additional term or terms.
Graduates of
WATC will be eligible to be elected as Teaching Members of
the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique.
Attendance
Students are
expected to attend the course regularly. A register of
attendance will be kept and lost hours will have to be made
up at the student's own expense. The residential courses
form part of the three year course and in the event that a
student is not able to attend one or more of these courses
the lost hours will need to be made up through extra
attendance at the school or residential courses, also at the student's own expense.
Grievances
Although it is
to be hoped that any difficulties can be resolved "in
house", STAT has
designed a Conciliation and Disputes Procedure which may be
initiated by a Student Member by contacting the current
Chair of the STAT Training Committee. A copy of the
procedure is kept in the school and is available from STAT
on request.
