Westminster Alexander Training Course

Teacher training in the Alexander Technique

at the Westminster Alexander Centre

Yearly Structure

The course structure will not be rigid as it will aim to respond to the needs of the students. Nevertheless, a broad outline of the emphases over the 3 years is as follows:

Year 1

The emphasis during year 1 will be on the students' own use. It is often during this period of a Training Course that the biggest physical changes take place and emotional issues can come to the surface. We will aim to provide a supportive atmosphere with plenty of hands-on work and scope to discuss matters when necessary.

Year 2

As sensory awareness and confidence increase, more challenging projects will be introduced (students’ presentations, development of the application of the Technique to some areas of interest) and more time spent developing hands-on skills and the use and teaching of practical skills (procedures). Basic anatomy & physiology.

Year 3

During this year students will be encouraged to take responsibility for some small teaching modules at the residential courses (under supervision), to develop the integration of the Technique with some skills or interests they may already have (music, coaching, teaching, training, art, etc.) and to prepare for their careers in teaching.
